Aircraft reservations required at Austin-Bergstrom Nov. 12-21

AUSTIN, TEXAS Ė Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (KAUS) is requiring reservations from aircraft operators for airport use November 12-21, 2012 for the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix event on Nov. 18. A heavy volume of air traffic is expected during this time so a parking reservation system has been established to insure that ramp space will be available for arriving aircraft. A Prior Permission Required (PPR) number will be needed for all aircraft parking or dropping off passengers, with the exception of current commercial carriers operating normally scheduled flights. A reservation is also required for larger commercial charters wishing to park on a ramp or at a gate at KAUS.

Austin-Bergstrom Fixed-base Operators (FBOs), Atlantic Aviation Services and Signature Flight Support, can assist in obtaining a PPR number. For an application and detailed information about operating at KAUS during the event, visit: http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/austinairport/f1_arrival_procedures.htm

Contact Austin-Bergstrom FBOs at:
Atlantic Aviation Services, 4309 Emma Browning Avenue, 512-530-7000
Signature Flight Support, 4321 Emma Browning Avenue, 512-530-5451

Austin-Bergstrom has a limited capability to process passengers and cargo arriving nonstop from origins outside the United States with prior notice. Receipt of a PPR number is not permission for international flights to fly directly into KAUS without clearing Customs and Immigration. All operators seeking to fly directly to KAUS from an international point of origin should contact the Austin U.S. Customs and Border Patrol Authority no later than 30 days prior to the desired arrival.

In addition, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will utilize management initiatives when arrival rates exceed airport capacity between Friday, November 16 and Monday, November 19. Pilots should be prepared for potential airborne holding, reroutes, or Expected Departure Clearance Times (EDCT) that may be issued for all domestic IFR arrivals to airport in the local area including: Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (KAUS), Austin Executive Airport (KEDC), Georgetown Airport (KGTU), and San Marcos Airport (KHYI).

Signature Flight Support and Atlantic Aviation Services have provided the city of Austin with a list of aircraft that are based at KAUS. Their tail numbers are being entered in our data base and Airport Ops will be issuing a PPR# for each home based aircraft through their respective FBOs. This particular PPR# can be used multiple times during the NOTAMíd period. There is no action needed on the aircraft ownerís or pilotís part other than insuring they pick up the PPR# for their tail number from the FBO and including the number when they file their flight plan.

Home based aircraft can operate pretty much normally if they have the number on their flight plan. However, during the NOTAM period, particularly on Friday, November 16th through Monday November 19th the FAA may restrict operations to full stops only.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport generates $2.4 billion economic impact to the Austin area annually. Austinís airport has nonstop service to 37 destinations in the U.S. and Mexico and served a record 9.1 million passengers in 2011. The airport is growing to meet the future needs of Austin with improvements ranging from terminal expansion to parking. Austin-Bergstrom is entirely self-sustaining, generating its own revenue to cover its operating costs. For more information, click on www.abia.org.
